Punctuation

You can have variables and functions of the same name.

$fish = "Jaws"; @fish = ("Snapper", "Groper", "Hokie"); sub fish { print "I'd rather be working.\n" }

You can interpolate variables into double-quoted strings. This bites in other languages (hi, Python!).
print "Hi, $name.\n";
They make variables stand out.
