Perl vs sh/awk

Beginners sometimes think Perl should be more like sh or tcl or ...
Give them time.
Eventually they'll want Perl to be less like sh and tcl and C and awk and ...
They want it to be more like sh and awk because they're writing simple file and text manipulation in Perl.
When they start using Perl's process management, or GUI, or OO, or ... features, they'll grow out of this.
